Dr. Marlene Mack
A Newark, NJ native and graduate of Malcolm X Shabazz High School, Marlene pursued Special Education at South Carolina State University, where she made history as the first student crowned Miss Homecoming Queen two consecutive years. A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she also excelled in sports and debate.
Marlene’s journey began with an in-home daycare launched after the birth of her children—what started as a labor of love grew into a thriving center known for its personalized care and groundbreaking performing arts program. Since incorporating the arts in 2005, OSALC has produced dazzling student-led Christmas concerts, Black History performances, talent and fashion shows. Her students, ages 2–13, perform in full costume with dedicated stylists, vocal coaches, and stage crews. These vibrant showcases have not only captivated live audiences but also drawn national attention—earning invitations to paid performances and even inquiries from America’s Got Talent.
Beyond the classroom, Marlene is an inventor with a U.S. patent for Bottlemals, a product designed to promote healthy hydration in children. Her impact has earned her numerous honors, including the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award signed by President Joe Biden, the Humanitarian Doctorate Award, and recognitions like the KISS FM Choice Award for Best Daycare and the Malaysia Arts Award for Innovation and Excellence.
Marlene is an active member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and the Association for Early Learning. She is currently expanding her mission by opening a second OSALC location in Newark’s Gateway One—poised to be the only early childhood performing arts and learning center of its kind in the area.
In 2024, Marlene expanded her voice and vision even further as the host of the One Step Ahead Radio Show, where she continues to empower, uplift, and inspire through conversations that mirror her life’s work.
She is the proud mother of four—Willie, Brittany, Brianna, and Bria—and shares her home with her beloved dog, Sassy. Guided by her unwavering belief that “Christ and Education Make a Great Combination,” Marlene Mack continues to lead with heart, purpose, and passion.
